We are experimenting with sunflowers this year.  We started the seeds indoors but they didn’t take so I direct seeded them in a raised bed in front of the barn.  It’s extremely hot and dry in that area of the yard and they must like it because they really took off.  These are Mammoth Grey sunflowers and hopefully they’ll make lots of seeds because chickens love sunflower seeds.
