Waltham Model 1894 – Restoration Project
An uncle of mine asked if I could “fix” his pocket watch. The second hand had fallen off, and it was “real stiff” to wind. Waltham pocket watches are unique in their strict adherence to serial numbering throughout the company’s history. The records have been transcribed on several websites, making it quite easy to get specifics on particular movements.

This movement is a mid-range Model 1894, manufactured in 1917. It is recorded as a “Grade 210″ meaning 7 jewels and no adjustments. Even in this range there is a surprising amount of amount of engraving and decoration for a mass produced piece. Despite being nothing special (this movement can be picked up for under $50) the watch holds intrensic value to the owner, and I enjoy working on something which someone took such pride in assembling 90+ years ago. I’ll post more as the repair progresses, I am always willing to work on these old beauties!
